JULIA P. AMES

ABOUT
As an accomplished visual designer, I have a broad background in art direction, print and digital graphic design, website design, branding, and social media. I’ve worked for design studios, university departments, a publisher, and as a sole proprietor. I excel in collaborative environments while also working independently to meet deadlines.
My design expertise spans magazine editorial layouts, reports, books, e-books, brochures, booklets, posters, signage, banners, event promotion collateral, t-shirts, and social media content.
I create original concepts for a wide array of collateral and execute projects and campaigns to completion, tracking production schedule deadlines. I bring top-notch skills to art direction, the use of color, photography, typography, editorial design, digital illustration, and logo design. I execute branded content for industries including education, finance, pharmaceuticals, tourism, arts, culture, entertainment, and retail.
My early studies included painting and drawing at the University of Idaho and the Ottawa School of Art, later completing a degree in graphic design and illustration at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada. I furthered my studies with courses in branding systems at Ontario College of Art and Design and various technology workshops. I have kept my hand in my love of figure drawing with classes at Popopstudios in Nassau and private classes in Moscow, Idaho.
I have had a long-standing interest in theater and the arts and enjoy promoting concerts and festivals. Locally I volunteer with Rendezvous in the Park in Moscow, Idaho. While in Nassau, I began a longstanding relationship with the Shakespeare in Paradise theatre festival, initially working to launch its first festival in 2009 by designing their promotional collateral. From then to the present, as poster art director, I select artists to create poster art for the festival to promote each of the shows.
